Regional Food Hub
Building the infrastructure for local food supply chains
What we noticed
Getting Hertfordshire-grown produce onto local people’s plates requires physical infrastructure such as processing and storage facilities, market-places, and distribution logistics. A network of community-led food hubs would help to provide this critical capacity for a viable local food system.
What we’re doing
We’re developing plans for a regional food hub that will bring growing, processing, storage, distribution and learning opportunities together in one place. We want to build a demonstrator that can be replicated across Hertfordshire to create a thriving local food economy.
How it supports our shared vision
A regional food hub will help to relocalise our food supply – increasing our resilience against global shocks and enabling local producers to retain more value. It will also provide a place for people to come together and rebuild a strong sense of community around food.
